Project Summary

The project supports the work of the SCN Coalition, a group of university experts and ag industry partners working together to help farmers fight soybean cyst nematode, the #1 soybean yield-stealing pest in the United States. Because of the Coalition’s work, nearly 20% of U.S. soybean farmers are actively managing their farms to reduce SCN impact.

Project Objectives

The project will continue to promote farm management to reduce SCN impact. Through print, radio and TV as well as social media, the messages from the SCN Coalition will continue to create awareness and inform farmers to test their soil for SCN.

The team will continue to promote and update the SCN Profit Checker, a tool that shows how much SCN is costing farmers who are not managing for its control. The team will also train university Extension staff and agronomists to spread the word and help educate growers of the management choices they can use to stay ahead of SCN as well as other nematode pressure.

Benefits to Soybean Farmers

With industry partners supporting researchers to improve SCN resistance, the SCN Coalition is a coordinated group that promotes awareness of the damage SCN can do in farmer fields, as well as promote advancements in research and cultural practices so farmers can protect their profitability.
